TMF’s 2020 Grant Cycle will be open from April 20th to May 29th.
The application is provided in PDF and Word formats so that you are able to review questions and prepare your answers in advance. We strongly prefer that you submit your application using the ONLINE APPLICATION from April 20 to May 29.
The Merchants Fund is committed to providing for the economic needs of the merchant community with modest grants. Merchants must be located in Philadelphia for a minimum of three years. Business Stabilization grants of $500 to $10,000 are available to help small businesses remain stable and viable in the face of economic challenges, changes, and crisis. The application process is competitive. There is no guarantee of an award. We recommend that merchants explore other funding sources simultaneously to the grant application process. Before you are able to complete the full application you will be directed to an Eligibility Quiz. You can read more about the eligibility requirements and application process here.
Grant Process & Timeline
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as they are received. If your proposed project is compelling and fits TMF’s funding priorities, you will be contacted to schedule a site visit. A site visit is an opportunity for TMF staff to learn more about you and your business, as well as the proposed project for which you are seeking funding. As such, you will be asked follow-up questions about your business and the project to help the Board of Managers in making the final grant decisions.
Application Available*: Monday, April 20th
Application due date: Friday, May 29th (online or postmarked by if submitting paper application)
[Applications received after the due date will not be considered.]
Review & Site visits: June-July
Notification of grant decisions: August
Disbursement of grant funds will begin immediately after grant decisions are made. All projects must be completed, and funds disbursed, by November 1st.

The application can be completed online* from April 20th to May 29th. You’ll be asked to create a login and password, then directed to take the Eligibility Quiz to determine if your business is eligible for a grant. If you are eligible, you’ll be directed to the full application.
In addition to questions about your business and the project for which you’re seeking funding, if your business was referred to TMF by one of our partners (i.e. a CDFI, CDC, SBDC, or other provider of business technical assistance) or you’re working with a supporting organization we’ll ask you to provide contact information so that your sponsor can also provide a recommendation for you. These organizations are also available to assist you in completing your online application, to provide translation services (if needed), and to upload the required documents to the online system.
The online application can also be translated into multiple languages using Google Translate. Click here to learn how to download and use Google Translate.
All online applications* will be due by midnight on Friday, May 29th.
* To improve grant tracking and communication, there is a strong preference to have all applications completed online. If this is not possible, we can provide assistance with completing the online application in our office (email TMF’s Grants & Operations Associate to schedule an appointment) or a paper copy will be accepted. Paper copies of the application and all additional application materials must be postmarked by Friday, May 29th and sent to 1617 JFK Boulevard, Suite 2042, Philadelphia PA 19103 or emailed to email@example.com).
