Groove Hound

Stabilization Grant, Spring 2013

Groove Hound is a doggie daycare, training and walking service, grooming facility, and members-only-boarding service.  Groove Hound is operated and owned by Kelly, an avid animal lover.  She has a pack of dogs herself, and manages her property very well.  The property is between the Kensington and Fishtown neighborhoods of Philadelphia.  She has indoor area and outdoor area, which she took over in 2013.

In 2013 she saw the need to expand her business from a strictly a grooming service to include full doggy daycare and boarding options.  She connected with a local Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Finanta.  Funding from Finanta and TMF helped Groove Hound with expenses related to her expansion.  Her plans were clearly laid out, and she was cutting costs by doing much of the needed work herself.  She needed to revamp the lot next her business, and install a few safety features for her future canine clients.

After the expansion Groove Hound was able to increase their capacity, bringing on new services and new clients.  Groove Hound setup a member-based boarding campground, which is exclusively for her ‘regulars.’  This has helped her grow and support the dog-owners in the ever changing neighborhoods of Kensington and Fishtown.
