Overview: Before being diagnosed with Celiac Disease, Flakely founder & Executive pastry chef Chef Lila Colello worked for Wolfgang Puck, The Food Network, and in some of the country’s best restaurants. Now, Chef Lila works tirelessly to create her own versions of pastries and breads that gluten-free foodies miss the most. TMF supported Flakely with a $10,000 grant to help purchase a new freezer and hire a new baker.
Impact: “[The loan] allowed us to hire a baker, which allowed me as the owner to step out of the kitchen some of the week and actually work on building the business from the backend. This greatly impacted me by allowing me more of a work/life balance! This grant [also] greatly assisted us in a huge jump in growth last year, and now we are once again growing” -Lila Colello; Owner

“Marcos and Alma own a beloved, local seafood spot in South Philly — @marcosfishandcrabhouse — and are also known for also being featured on Season 5 of Queer Eye on Netflix! Down the street, Nacho owns another loved Mexican-owned business named — "Taquitos de Puebla" and serves a very special Sopa Azteca, grilled nopales, and other exquisite Mexican dishes.
Both businesses have unfortunately been victims of vandalism and recently had their vehicles stolen in the summer of 2023. One was a refrigerated truck, which has been especially difficult for `Marco`s Fish` as their fish is fresh each day and requires transit to the restaurant. Now, without the truck, Marcos and Alma`s business is at stake. Nacho also cannot make required pickups for his restaurant`s ingredients.”
